Summary
The tithe is not ten percent but literally the tenth item, and it was a specific Old Testament system for funding the priesthood, celebrations, and poor relief—not a direct model for New Testament giving. Christians should give from the heart, according to their ability, motivated by grace and relationship with Christ, with amounts determined by the church community's needs.
Highlights
Tithe means tenth. One for every ten. It is not ten percent.
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
There is not an amount or percentage specified in the New Covenant. But the way we decide how much, the Scripture says, is from the heart.
