Summary
Peter calls persecuted Christians to mature response through hopeful expectation in God, reverence for the Father's just judgment, and sincere brotherly love—demonstrating that believers' conduct must reflect their transformed identity in Christ, not earn salvation.
Highlights
When we pursue holiness in our conduct, we're saying, God, I want to be like you. I want to take on your character, your ethic, because as followers of Jesus, our desire to fit in with God who is holy is greater than our desire to fit in with the world.
If you revere someone, you listen to them. You take time to learn. And often we see that as extra credit as Christians. And it's not central.
Christians would be different than everybody else in difficult situations if we had that posture of being ready, like God, whatever you need to do at this moment, I want to be a part of it.
