Summary
Work is a divine gift meant to be received with gratitude and performed as worship to God, not as a means to earn worth or security. Drawing from Proverbs, the sermon contrasts the restlessness of laziness with the soul-rest found in diligent, faithful work, and calls believers to consecrate their labor as an act of devotion rather than pursuing wealth or status.
Highlights
Being a sluggard, laying around, not doing anything, counterintuitively creates in you an inner kind of toil. It promises rest, but in the end, it's really hard work to be lazy.
The good life is not in avoiding work. The good life is in looking out at the work that you have to do and deciding that your soul will only be at rest when you take the tasks that are in front of you and you do them with diligence, faithfulness.
Work is not a way to earn our worth or to earn our security or to make a name for ourself. Work is open hands receiving the good things that God has promised to us.
