Summary
Psalm 127 contrasts self-reliance with dependence on God, showing how trusting in one's own strength leads to restlessness and vanity while depending on God produces both rest and fruitfulness. Applied to parenting, the sermon teaches parents to know their target (raising fully devoted followers of Jesus), shape children's hearts toward the gospel, maintain relational tension, and ultimately release them as arrows for God's kingdom.
Highlights
Depending on God is not simply taking our hands off of our lives, but it's trusting that he has his hands on our lives and that he's faithful.
When we live as though God doesn't exist and we don't need him for anything, there are a lot of things that we should be worried about, because deep down we know we're not nearly as in control of our lives as we like to think that we are.
Our target as Christian parents is to raise kids who are fully devoted followers of Jesus, kids who love and treasure Jesus more than anything else in the world.
