Summary
Romans 13 teaches that all governing authority is instituted by God, making submission to authorities a test of one's relationship with God. While Christians must generally obey governing authorities, they are called to resist only when authorities forbid what God commands or command what God forbids. True Christian witness comes through respectful submission, honor, and love rather than resistance or rights-claiming.
Highlights
Your submission to authority is a test of your relationship with God.
In one way it gives power to authority, but in another way it takes power away from authority. Because you're not really just submitting to the authorities in your life, you're submitting to God.
The way to climb the ultimate ladder in the universe is to humble yourself. It's to die to yourself. It's to let go of bitterness and slander.
