Summary
Romans 13:8–14 teaches that the second coming of Jesus should motivate Christians to love others as debtors—generously and intentionally—to fulfill the law's maximum standard through love, and to live awake and alert rather than sleepwalking through life.
Highlights
Love isn't about obligation, it's about grace. Grace is the motivation for our love.
If you live your life as an entitled person waiting for other people to love you, you will struggle in all of your relationships. But if you love like a debtor, if every single person you meet you recognize because of the grace and out of a gratitude-filled heart for the gospel in your life that you're gonna love them whether or not they deserve it or earn it, then you will have incredible relationships.
When he tells us to love our enemies, he gives, along with the command, the love itself.
