Summary
Romans 14 teaches that the church should welcome believers with differing consciences on non-essential issues, living not to judge one another but to honor the Lord. Both the strict and the permissive believer can please God through their choices; the congregation is called to embrace this diversity in faith while recognizing that each person will give account to God alone.
Highlights
There is nothing more ugly than an orthodoxy without understanding or without compassion. So you can believe the right thing, but if we lack compassion and understanding for one another, our doctrine becomes an ugly thing to the world.
The primary question is not what you're doing on matters of conscience. The question is, who are you doing it for?
Who are we to point the finger at anybody else? Who are we to judge anybody else? Are we kind according to God's word? Are we patient? Are we gracious? Are we loving? Have we lived up to God's standard?
