Summary
Mark 1:1-13 introduces Jesus as the Messiah and Son of God whose identity is confirmed through John the Baptist, God the Father's voice, and victory over Satan. Christianity offers good news of salvation through Christ's substitutionary work, not merely good advice about personal morality.
Highlights
Christianity is not about what you do. It's about what's been done for you. Christian maturity is not getting really busy completing a to-do list. Christian maturity is about learning to respond to what Christ has already done.
When God the Father looks at you, do you know what He doesn't see? Your browsing history. He doesn't see your eating disorder. He doesn't see your dysfunctional family. He doesn't see your guilt and your shame. Do you know what He sees? He sees Jesus Christ, His perfect Son, and He looks at you and He says, 'You're my daughter and I love you and I'm proud of you and I'm with you.'
If Jesus needed it, we need it. If Jesus needed community to overcome the temptations and the trials in His life, do you figure that you need community to overcome the trials and temptations of your life?
