Summary
Peter teaches that true gospel holiness requires a gospel motivation, prepared mind, set hope, clear target, healthy fear, and sincere love for others. Unlike religions of human accomplishment that breed pride, biblical Christianity flows from God's divine achievement—we are accepted in Christ, therefore we pursue holiness by obeying God's commands and loving others earnestly, not arrogantly.

At the final judgment we will be evaluated by works but saved by grace.
Christianity is not about what you can do for God, how awesome or holy of a person you are but it's what God has done for you and in light of that Peter gives the command therefore be holy.
