Summary
Peter exhorts believers to discard sinful attitudes like malice, envy, and hypocrisy, then nourish themselves on God's Word to grow into their true identity in Christ. Jesus, the rejected living stone and cornerstone, is the foundation of all worth and the cure for shame, calling believers to proclaim His excellencies as a chosen race and royal priesthood.
Highlights
You don't own your reputation—other people do. You own your character. Your reputation is given to you by others, but your character you own that.
Jesus is the cure to our shame. When we know Him, we have no need for self-protection or self-assertment anymore because He is the one that satisfies our needs for success, significance, and security.
We have the greatest story we get to tell. It's not a story of 'look at what I did,' it's a story of 'I was lost and broken, and God came and searched me out in the darkness and brought me into His light.'
