Summary
Ephesians 6:5-9 teaches that Christians—whether slaves or workers—have been freed through Christ and given a new Master whose reward transcends earthly circumstances. The gospel doesn't merely demand the abolition of unjust systems; it offers internal freedom and dignity to all people regardless of their social position.
Highlights
The gospel doesn't wait for the world to get it right. The gospel doesn't wait to work until the systems and structures and circumstances of your life are right. It can change you right here, right now.
If you belong to Jesus, you cannot be robbed. You cannot be overlooked. It's actually impossible for you one day to not be paid back—not just in full, but in abundance—for the good work that you do.
Tom was free to obey his master on earth because he had a new Master who treated him kindly. Your obedience to your worldly masters and bosses, it isn't actually surrender. It's just strength under the lordship of Jesus.
